Description
This fairy tale is about an old widow who had two beautiful daughters, Snow White and Rose Red. They resemble the white and red rose trees in her garden. Snow White was quieter and more often at home, while Rose Red preferred to pick flowers in the forest. The girls were not threatened by animals in the forest, and even when they slept right next to a precipice, their guardian angel protected them. One winter, a bear sought shelter with them night after night. In spring, the bear had to leave again to protect his treasures from the dwarves. He tore his fur at the door frame and Snow White thought she saw gold shimmering underneath. Later, the girls met a dwarf three times in the forest, who was stuck with his beard on a felled tree, then on a fishing line, then a bird of prey wanted to carry him away. They help him each time, but he was ungrateful and scolded them for damaging his beard and skirt in the process. At the fourth meeting, the dwarf became angry because Snow White and Rose Red surprised him in front of a spread-out pile of precious stones. The bear came and slew the dwarf. When they recognised the bear, he turned into a king's son. Snow White married the king's son and Rose Red married his brother.
