Der Wächter Giovanni

The master thief Giovanni had become a rich man by practising his craft all over the world. Eventually, however, he was drawn back to his homeland and told his godfather, the count in the castle near his father's house, about his skills. At first he was furious and wanted to hang the master thief immediately. But then he gave him the chance to prove his skills with three tasks. First, he had to steal the best horse from the count's stable, which was guarded by soldiers. In the second task, the master thief had to steal the bed sheet from under the count's body in the night and steal the countess's wedding ring from her finger. And as the last and third task, he was to steal the priest and the sexton from the church.
