If you’re looking for the ultimate adrenaline rush in Shanghai, the Diving Coaster is a must-see. Even from a distance, the massive red track network dominates the park’s skyline. After leaving the station, a chain lift slowly pulls the massive cars—each ten seats wide—up to a dizzying height of 65 meters. Once at the top, the ride enters a curve and rolls directly toward the edge of the precipice. But instead of plummeting immediately, a mechanical holding brake engages. The train stops for a few nerve-wracking seconds, holding the passengers face-down over the abyss. Then the brakes release, and a free fall follows at a 90-degree angle straight down into the depths! Traveling at 110 km/h, the train shoots through the bottom of the valley and directly into a gigantic overhead element: the Immelmann loop. After a second, slightly smaller vertical drop, the wet finale awaits: The train races flat across a water basin. As it does so, two blades mounted at the rear send a huge fountain of water (Splash Effect) into the air, refreshing spectators on the bridge and in the back rows.
