The Thumbnail

Once upon a time there was a woodcutter who had a wife and seven sons. The youngest of the sons was very small. It wasn't bigger than a thumb. That is why he was called Tom Thumb. The family was very poor. The parents became so distressed that they decided to abandon the children in the forest. But Tom Thumb was clever. He scattered pebbles so they could find their way back. A few weeks later, the parents tried again. This time they made sure that Tom Thumb couldn't scatter pebbles. Since he had nothing else, he scattered breadcrumbs. But when he tried to show his brothers the way back, the birds had eaten all the breadcrumbs. He quickly climbed a tree. “I see a house in the distance, people live there.” Unfortunately, no people lived there, but a giant.
But the giant's wife allowed them to stay one night because they were so tired. “But watch out! You have to be very still. The giant must not wake up. ”The following morning the seven brothers quickly set off. But ... the giant was on to them. They ran and ran, but the giant was much faster. He had seven-mile boots with which he could take giant strides. "Quick, I know a cave in which we can hide," said Thumbling. "The giant will certainly not find us there." Tired of the search, the giant fell into a very deep sleep near the hiding place. Again Tom Thumb had a plan. "What will happen when I can grab those seven-mile boots?"
