Mystic Aquarium

The Mystic Aquarium in Mystic, Connecticut, is one of the most famous marine aquariums in the United States and offers visitors a fascinating mix of animal encounters, education and conservation. It opened in 1973 and is now home to over 10,000 animals, including rare beluga whales, African penguins, California sea lions and Steller sea lions. The belugas in particular attract many visitors, as the aquarium has the largest outdoor pool for these animals in the United States.

The Dino Seas programme offers a playful insight into the prehistoric marine world, combining education with entertainment. Interactive areas such as the Ray Touch Tank, where rays can be touched, and special encounter programmes with penguins and sea lions, which allow visitors to get up close and personal with the animals, are also particularly popular.

In addition to presenting animals, Mystic Aquarium attaches great importance to research and conservation. It collaborates with leading institutions and is a member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and the Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums (AMMPA). Outstanding projects, such as providing a sea turtle with a custom-made 3D-printed assistive device, demonstrate the aquarium's commitment to innovative animal care.
