About the Park
Kentucky Kingdom, together with the associated Hurricane Bay water park, covers an area of 26 hectares.
The park was originally opened in 1987, but went bankrupt after just one year. Six Flags then took over the park and operated it under the name Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom until 2009. It then changed hands again and opened in 2014. The park offers some “first of its kind” roller coasters, such as Lightning Run:
- Lightning Run is the world's only Chance Rides Hyper GT-X coaster.
- Storm Chaser was the first roller coaster in the USA with a barrel roll drop.
Since March 2025, the park has belonged to Herschend Family Entertainment, which also owns Silver Dollar City and .
