Dollywood’s $50 million major attraction, NightFlight Expedition, located in the Wildwood Grove theme area, is the world’s first fully enclosed combination of a modern family roller coaster and a thrilling whitewater ride. This indoor adventure, completely unaffected by the weather, takes guests on a fascinating expedition deep into the Great Smoky Mountains in an air-conditioned hall spanning approximately 4,000 square meters. The backstory follows twin explorers Cora and Jasper Oakley. Starting from the intricately designed Hidden Hollow Aviation base station, visitors follow glowing, bioluminescent plant trails beneath the roots of the Wildwood Tree to uncover the mystery behind the magically shimmering Secret Lake. Mack Rides’ innovative “Rocking Boat” ride system uses an invisible track underwater. The five-and-a-half-minute ride combines four different dynamics: a gentle glide over treetops, high-speed roller coaster descents over artificial ridges, exhilarating rapids with nearly two million liters of water, and an atmospheric boat ride across the illuminated lake. Thanks to state-of-the-art multimedia projections, special effects, and an onboard soundtrack in complete darkness, the adventure is extremely immersive. The ride has a moderate, family-friendly thrill level and is open to guests who are at least approximately 99 cm tall. Photography is strictly prohibited on board.
