Aquarium of the Bay

On the west coast of the United States of America, or rather in San Francisco, the fourth largest city in the state of California, you will find the Aquarium of the Bay, which opened on 19 April 1994, on the edge of Pier 39. On a total area of 6,000 square metres, you can discover more than 24,000 mainly native aquatic animals from the San Francisco Bay and the adjacent rivers and watersheds up to the Sierra Mountains. Over 2.9 million litres of salt water are contained in the Aquarium of the Bay's countless aquariums, where you can see otters, jellyfish, moray eels, turtles, rays, starfish, octopus, corals and, of course, sharks. The huge walk-through underwater tunnel, where you can see the sea creatures from three sides, is also a very popular photo spot among visitors. The Aquarium of the Bay, which is affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution, has done a lot of research in its 25 years of existence and has contributed to the preservation and expansion of the biodiversity in the San Francisco Bay. So far, 25 new species of marine life have been identified at the aquarium. Every year, around 600,000 guests of all ages visit the Aquarium of the Bay, which should certainly be on your to-do list when visiting San Francisco.
