About the Park
On the way from Chemnitz towards Prague, just 19 kilometres after the German-Czech border, lies the Czech Republic's largest zoo on the outskirts of Chomutov / Komotau. Since its opening in 1975, the zoo has grown to a stately size of 112 ha and is home to a wide variety of animals. About 160 animal species, including more than 10 (such as the wolverine, the mud turtle or the whooping crane) for which European conservation programmes have been set up, live in Chomutov Zoo Park. In the large safari area, visitors can even experience rides in an all-terrain vehicle through a herd of mouflons. Mainly mammals and birds can be marvelled at here. The zoo also has an open-air museum where visitors can experience living in a historic farmhouse, for example.
