Prague Zoo

In 1931, the largest zoo in the Czech Republic opened in the capital city of Prague. Interspersed with natural streams and watercourses, the zoo spreads over an impressive area of 58ha, 50ha of which are available for exhibition. At the end of 2018, the zoo held more than 670 different species of animals, 563 of which are 'red-listed'. Nearly 1,400 young animals were born in 2018 and the zoo has an international reputation for its commitment to saving the Przewalski's horse. The zoo is divided into several areas such as the Africká Savana with giraffes and coatis, the Pavilon velkých Zelv with its giant Galapagos tortoises or the artificial Indonesian rainforest built for orangutans. Another must-see is the Chinese giant salamander, one of the rarest vertebrates on earth, for which a separate building was constructed.
