About the Park
In Johannesburg, South Africa, the capital of Gauteng Province, about eight kilometres southwest of the Johannesburg city centre, you will find the Gold Reef City theme park. The theme park was built on one of the largest and deepest gold mines in the world, the Crown Mines. Between 1894 and 1982, about 1.4 million kilograms of gold were mined in the former mining areas. So it's no wonder that on this site steeped in history, the park is reminiscent of the gold rush around 1890 and themed accordingly. Thus, the buildings as well as the fair and the costumes of the employees are recreated in the style of the 1890s. In the Gold Diggers' Museum, which you can visit 200 metres underground, you can experience the casting of gold bars live and learn about the history of gold, its extraction and processing. 16 thrill rides, 7 family attractions and 21 children's rides await you here, so that both the little guests and the adrenaline junkies get their money's worth.
