Oceanogràfic

The Oceanogràfic is the largest aquarium in the entire European Union and was inaugurated on February 14, 2003, in Valencia. Covering approximately 110,000 square meters, it is home to more than 20,000 specimens representing some 650 different species: such as dolphins, belugas, sea lions, seals, penguins, and especially turtles, as well as reptiles and birds typical of wetlands, such as those found in the Albufera de Valencia and in tropical mangroves. The Oceanogràfic is an impressive marine aquarium and oceanarium that stands as an outstanding example of modern design and architecture. As part of the “Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias” (City of Arts and Sciences), a futuristic cultural and leisure complex in Valencia, it stretches along the Turia riverbed. The aquarium is divided into various thematic areas that reflect the diversity of marine life and environments. These include areas dedicated to tropical waters, Arctic and Antarctic ecosystems, Mediterranean environments, coral reefs, and many others. One of the Oceanogràfic’s standout features is an impressive underwater tunnel that allows visitors to experience marine life up close as it swims overhead. This experience offers a unique glimpse into the underwater world.
