About the Park
The largest folk festival in the canton of Zurich is the Knabenschiessen. Every year, around 800,000 visitors are expected to attend the festival weekend. The ‘Chilbi’ fair is known throughout Switzerland, and all of the approximately 200 showmen come from Switzerland or have a Swiss branch. In addition to the fair, there is also a traditional large tombola with around 4,000 prizes and, in 2022, even a car as the main prize.
The festival has a tradition dating back to the 16th century, with the first Knabenschiessen taking place in 1656. The modern Knabenschiessen has been held since 1899 and is always organised by the shooting club. The shooting is done with the Army Sturmgewehr 90 (SIG 550) at a target 300 metres away. Since 1991, the event has no longer been reserved for boys; any young person between the ages of 13 and 17 can participate.
