Zoologischer Garten Basel AG

The largest animal stock, the most species-rich representation and the oldest zoo in Switzerland: all this is combined in the Zoological Garden Basel. Numerous animals have been presented on an area of around 11 hectares in Basel since it opened in 1874. You will find over 600 species here, which can be found in buildings such as the monkey house, the Africa facility or the Sauter garden. Due to great breeding successes, especially of Indian rhinos, pygmy hippos and western lowland gorillas, the zoo is well known and important beyond the region.
