About the Park
Around 100 years ago, Goldau Zoo opened in Goldau, between Lake Lauerz and Lake Zug, in 1925. In a rugged landscape created by a natural disaster, it began with a small zoo and a bird sanctuary. Over the years, the zoo grew to its current size of 42 hectares. Formerly known as "the zoo of Central Switzerland", it is now regarded as the most family-friendly local recreation area. Around 100 species, most of them native or European, live in the park, some of them - such as the bison - are bred in breeding programmes. Owls and ravens can be found in the aviaries as well as wild boars in the wild boar enclosure.
