Basel Christmas Market is one of the most beautiful and largest Christmas markets in Switzerland and spans two central squares in Basel's historic old town: Barfüsserplatz and Münsterplatz. The market town is characterised by its particularly atmospheric and high-quality ambience, which attracts numerous visitors every year.

The market on Barfüsserplatz forms the lively centre of Basel Christmas, with over 150 festively decorated stalls housed in traditional wooden chalets. The range of products on offer places great emphasis on quality and craftsmanship: visitors will find carefully selected gifts, including traditional Swiss handicrafts, Christmas decorations, candles and specialities.

Münsterplatz offers a particularly magical setting. It is located directly in front of the imposing Basel Minster and is home to the famous, magnificently decorated Christmas tree, often donated by a well-known personality or brand. This square is quieter and offers a more contemplative setting with a focus on regional delicacies and mulled wine stalls.

In terms of cuisine, Basel Christmas offers a rich array of Swiss and regional specialities, including traditional Basler Läckerli (spiced biscuits), fine cheese and meat specialities and, of course, Swiss mulled wine and punch.
