About the Park
The zoo, located in the heart of the Polish capital Warsaw, was established in 1928 and officially reopened in 1949 following World War II. Over the years, it was relocated directly to the Vistula River and grew to an impressive size of over 39 hectares, with 12 hectares dedicated solely to the animals. It is home to over 500 animal species, more than 10,000 fish, and 3,500 mammals, birds, and reptiles. The zoo gained international renown with the breeding of cheetahs in 2000 and the birth of a Indian rhinoceros in 2004. In 2010, a hippopotamus house and a saltwater aquarium were opened. In 2014–2015, the aquarium underwent a complete renovation. The elephant house is considered one of the most modern facilities in Europe.
