About the Park
The origins of Opole Zoo date back to 1912, when a private area was fenced off for residents to enjoy. Around 25 years later, the area went to the city, at that time with a tranquil 1.5 ha. After the major reconstruction caused by the war, the zoo reopened its doors in 1953. To date, the zoo has grown to cover an area of over 30 ha. Over 200 animal species are presented to visitors in one of the largest zoos in Silesia. Ugandan giraffes, onyx and white-handed gibbons are bred here in elaborate breeding programmes. For visitors, otter, pelican or gorilla feedings are a great spectacle that is gladly accepted as an offer.
