About the Park
In eastern Styria, about three quarters of an hour's drive east of Graz, you will find the Herberstein Animal World at Herberstein Castle. The Styrian State Animal Garden was opened in 1960, but has its origins as early as the 17th century. It covers a total area of 46 ha, of which 23 ha are available for animal enclosures. More than 80 species of animals live in lively communities, divided into Australia, Africa, America, Petting Zoo/Pets and Eurasia. At the zoo, visitors can walk through the Africa circuit in about 45 minutes or the large animal world circuit in about 90 minutes. A special feature here is the cheetah enclosure, which is the largest in Europe. The animals are fed by cheetah lift, for example, which is quite a sight to see. Not only large predators can be found at Tierwelt Herberstein, but also smaller animals such as the black and white Vari, Bactrian camels, the red panda or the puffer armadillo.
