Zwolle (NL) - Zomerkermis

Every August, the Zomerkermis transforms the historic Hanseatic city into a dazzling spectacle and is one of the most atmospheric funfairs in the Netherlands. What makes this fair so special is its location in the medieval city centre: the rides wind their way through prominent squares such as the Grote Markt, the Melkmarkt and the Rodetorenplein, offering state-of-the-art thrills right next to centuries-old monuments and picturesque canals. Those who climb aboard one of the high rides are rewarded with an incomparable panoramic view of the striking skyline with the famous ‘Peperbus’ church tower.

The atmosphere is characterised by the typical Dutch ‘gezelligheid’, a warm conviviality that attracts visitors from all over the Overijssel region. Between fast-paced adrenaline-fuelled attractions and nostalgic carousels, the smell of freshly baked oliebollen, poffertjes and churros wafts through the alleys. Especially in the evening, when the colourful lights of the stalls are reflected in the canals and the city is bathed in a magical sea of colours, the Zomerkermis unfolds its very own magic. With special event days such as Family Day and Euro Day, as well as an often spectacular closing fireworks display, creates an experience that perfectly combines tradition and modern folk festival culture.
