About the Park
The fairground covers a considerable area and makes optimal use of the geographical features of the port city. The rides are positioned so that you can often enjoy a direct view of the Westerschelde and the huge container ships passing by. The Ferris wheel in particular offers a panorama that is unrivalled in the Netherlands. The combination of salty sea air, the screeching of seagulls and the colourful lights of the rides creates an atmosphere that attracts both tourists and locals in droves.
In terms of numbers, the Kermis in Vlissingen is one of the region's major events. Over a period of about ten days in midsummer (usually in July), the city records visitor numbers in the six-figure range. On sunny days, tens of thousands of people crowd the promenade. The selection of attractions is top-notch: from state-of-the-art adrenaline-fuelled rides that tower far above the quay walls to traditional Dutch classics such as the “Gebakkraam”, where typical oliebollen are sold, everything is represented.
A special feature of Dutch fairground culture, which is also very pronounced in Vlissingen, is the focus on spectacle and gastronomy. In addition to fish specialities such as kibbeling and herring, there are also typical sweet treats from the region. The fair is also closely linked to the local calendar of events and often culminates in a large closing fireworks display, which is set off over the sea and bathes the entire bay in colourful lights.
