Heerhugowaard (NL) - Kermis

The Heerhugowaard Fair is a popular regional festival in the province of North Holland, which transforms the town centre into a colourful fairground every year. The fair is centred right in the heart of the town on the central Stadsplein, located directly in front of the well-known Middenwaard shopping centre and the town hall. Thanks to this location, the fairground is extremely well connected and easily accessible for visitors both by car and on foot from the nearby railway station.

The fair offers a balanced mix of attractions for all age groups. Thrill-seekers will find plenty to enjoy on modern, high-speed rides, whilst classics such as the bumper cars and the Ferris wheel attract a wide audience. For younger visitors, there are traditional children’s carousels as well as fairground classics such as duck fishing and tin can throwing. The fair is also firmly rooted in the region’s culinary traditions, so that alongside candyfloss and savoury snacks, visitors can enjoy typical Dutch specialities such as freshly baked oliebollen and poffertjes.

The multi-day spectacle is also characterised by special programme items that are an integral part of the festivities. These include special discount afternoons, when the rides can be used at reduced prices, making the fair particularly attractive for families. Well-known children’s characters or clowns often visit the fairground to provide entertainment and take souvenir photos. As a festive highlight, the colourful hustle and bustle is traditionally rounded off on one of the evenings with a large, colourful fireworks display.
