Description

Millions of years ago the people of van Laaf lived at the warm North Pole, but when ice and snow and the relentless blizzards made life there impossible, progenitor Laaf and great mother Lot decided to save their little people and lead them away from the North Pole.
However, since they did not know any other coast, they only had the path through the earth.

So they slowly dug their way through the earth to warmer depths near the core of the earth.
However, the progenitor Laaf did not see the completion of this tunnel, because when his children had dug it, they found Laaf frozen to a pillar of ice at the entrance, where he looked out in the freezing cold for his wife Lot, who, however, had long since disappeared into the tunnel, for hers Helping children.

So the day of departure was also a day of suffering and great mother Lot wept so much and was so sad
that their children created a golden statue of Laaf to always remember him and to honor him for his deed to save the lavas.
For many centuries they lived in the most varied of places, but did not really feel at home anywhere.

But one day, when they were once again traveling through the earth, looking for a new home,
When they heard their own exclamation "Alaaf" on the surface, they dug themselves to the surface and found themselves in Efteling, where they liked it so much that they settled here forever and built a memorial and honorary house on Laaf's golden statue .

You can still hear and see the story in a deep hole inside this house, the former tunnel exit that led the lavas to Efteling.

The village, enclosed by a wall with many small towers, consists of a total of 16 unique buildings, the style of which is a mixture of all architectural styles in the world and which is characterized above all by its pointed roofs with large spheres.
The use of thatch, wood and clay, i.e. the building materials that can be found on site, is a characteristic of the lava architecture.

In and around the buildings you can watch the lavas at work and life.
Each building corresponds to the activity that takes place in it.
