Description
The Baron 1898 takes his visitors on a journey back to the time of the Dutch mining industry, when industrialization reached its peak.
Efteling was inspired by the long history of mining and the (inter) national legend about the "white women". In the attraction, visitors put themselves in the life of a real "buddy".
The miners (and women) are pulled up a high shaft tower in mining trains.
From here they plunge 37.5 meters into an underground mine. The buddies are literally "hanging by a thread" with their vehicle - and they experience an incredible free fall into the shaft.
The story: Gustave Hooghmoet and the White Women:
The story behind the attraction is about a greedy mining baron who found a gold vein in the south of the country. There he would like to remove as much gold as possible, but the fertile soil is protected by the white women. Pit baron Gustave Hooghmoed asks his miners to help him and promises them mountains of gold. But the white women are trying with all their might to stop the degradation.
