Tokyo Disneyland / 東京ディズニーランド

As the first Disney theme park outside the USA, the Tokyo Disney Resort was opened on 15 April 1983 in the Japanese city of Urayasu, less than 20 kilometres from Tokyo. The park is operated under licence by The Oriental Land Company and since 2001 there have been two theme parks (Tokyo Disney Sea). Walt Disney Imagineering designed the park with its seven themed areas in the same style as Disneyland in Anaheim and the Magic Kingdom in Florida: You will find the five classic areas Fantasyland, Adventureland, Westernland or Frontierland and Tomorrowland as well as World Bazaar (which corresponds to the Mainstreet area in other parks) and additionally Critter Country and Toontown. In 1997 Tokyo Disneyland achieved the title of the most visited theme park in the world.

The attractions at Disneyland are special because of their particularly detailed design, the selection of attractions is quite familiar from other parks: not only do you find the Pirates of the Carribean dark ride, the Swiss Family Treehouse or the Mark Twain Riverboat, but also the 3 roller coasters (the newest was built in 1995) such as Big Thunder Mountain or Space Mountain are familiar to Disney fans.
