Parque España-Shima Spain Village in Japan’s Mie Prefecture is a charming tribute to Spanish culture and the Spanish way of life. Since April 1994, this sprawling resort has combined Southern European architecture with Japanese hospitality. Since wait times are often significantly shorter than at the major theme parks in Tokyo or Osaka, the resort is considered a true hidden gem for families and thrill-seekers. The undisputed highlight for roller coaster enthusiasts is “Pyrenees,” a spectacular suspended roller coaster that races through the curves at high speed. Those who prefer a more leisurely pace can stroll through the meticulously detailed replicas of famous Spanish landmarks, such as the Plaza Mayor. Every day, colorful parades, street musicals, and authentic flamenco shows featuring artists from Spain create a festive vacation atmosphere. The park also stays true to its theme when it comes to cuisine, serving freshly prepared paella and sweet churros.

The resort is divided into three areas. In addition to the amusement park, the directly adjacent “Hotel Shima Spain Mura,” built in the Andalusian style, invites guests to stay overnight. The on-site “Himawari-no-Yu” thermal bath provides relaxation after an eventful day. This traditional onsen features an outdoor pool with a view of the sea. It’s easy to get there from Nagoya or Osaka by taking the Kintetsu Railway to Ugata Station. From there, a shuttle bus runs directly to the entrance.
