Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens / 東山動植物園

The Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Garden in Nagoya has numerous parking lots spread across several areas. The West Parking Lot, located right next to the main entrance, is particularly popular. Additional parking areas are located at the North Gate, the Hoshigaoka Gate, the Botanical Garden, and the observation tower. A flat parking fee is charged per entry and varies depending on the type of vehicle. A special highlight for families is the integrated amusement park area, located right next to the zoo. This nostalgic amusement park offers classic rides, especially for younger children. Attractions include a roller coaster, a chain carousel, a miniature train, and a Ferris wheel that offers a great view. Tickets for the individual rides are purchased on-site. To keep walking distances short, visitors who wish to visit the amusement park are advised to use the West or North parking lots. On weekends, holidays, and during school breaks, the parking lots are often completely full by early morning, leading to long traffic jams. Park management therefore strongly recommends taking the Higashiyama subway line. The Higashiyama Koen and Hoshigaoka stations are just a few minutes’ walk from the park entrances. With a one-day subway pass, you not only avoid the hassle of finding parking but also receive a discount on admission to the zoo.
