The fully modernized Planet Theatre at Parco Oltremare in Italy offers moviegoers an impressive large-screen experience that transports them back to the icy era of Earth’s history. In the amphitheater-style auditorium, which seats up to 600 people, the majestic herds of mammoths and the pristine ice landscapes of the last great Ice Age come to life on a giant panoramic screen. Enhanced by high-resolution 3D digital projection and an immersive surround sound system that makes the rumbling of the glaciers physically palpable, the theater tells the gripping story surrounding the discovery of the baby mammoth “Lyuba.” The animal was recovered by paleontologists from the Siberian permafrost after some 42,000 years, virtually intact, and serves as the emotional thread running through the show. The fully air-conditioned and wheelchair-accessible indoor complex combines scientific facts with spectacular entertainment and impressively demonstrates how early humans defied the extreme forces of nature and populated the Earth alongside the titans of prehistory.
