About the Park
SEA LIFE aquariums are operated by the Merlin Group, which also owns the Legoland parks, Madame Tussauds, and . Each of the aquariums is designed in the style of a circular walkway and shows animals in a classic environment. For example, rays are kept in a large shallow tank, while schooling fish are kept in a large ring several metres in diameter filled with water. Each SEA LIFE also has a special focus and shows special features of the animal world in changing exhibitions. Turtles and jellyfish, for example, take centre stage. The Beluga Whale Sanctuary is a speciality, as it is a station for beluga whales to provide them with a safe and more natural home. It is owned by the SEA LIFE Trust. The centre is located on the shores of Heimaey Island in the Vestmannaeyjar archipelago off the south coast of Iceland. The mission is to lead the way and demonstrate that an alternative way of caring is possible. They want to encourage others to consider sanctuaries as an alternative to potentially change the lives of beluga whales and over 3,000 other whales and dolphins currently held in traditional facilities.
