Sandworld Sculpture Park

In the south-western English coastal town of Weymouth in the county of Dorset, you will find the SandWorld sand sculpture park, open daily from early April to mid-November, since 2011. The best sand sculptors from all over the world come here to Weymouth to model the sculptures from hundreds of tonnes of sand under the direction of Mark Anderson, the "Sandman" of Weymouth, whose grandfather Fred Darrington already designed huge sand sculptures here in Weymouth in the 1920s, and Mark's best friend David Hicks. Each season, the figures, which can be up to five metres high, are created on a different theme; sand sculptures have already been made on the theme of Star Wars or film and television. In the course of the season, new exhibits are added again and again, and you as guests can watch in amazement how the sculptors create their works of art. The sculptures are so detailed that you can hardly believe they are made of sand and water. Of course, you can also demonstrate your skills in one of the workshops and model smaller sculptures out of sand. Huge sandpits for digging and building sandcastles await the children, and the café invites you to linger and relax with delicious refreshments. The SandWorld sand sculpture park is an all-weather family attraction that can also be explored with a pram or wheelchair.
