About the Park
The Mulhouse Zoo, officially known as the Parc Zoologique et Botanique de Mulhouse, is located about 15 kilometers from the German border and 24 kilometers from the Swiss border. As the crow flies, it is 65 kilometers to , making a combined visit a natural choice. The zoo opened in 1868 and has since expanded to cover an area of 25 hectares. The year 1980 marked a turning point: since then, the focus has been on research, conservation, and breeding of endangered species. Of the approximately 170 species living at the zoo, 90 are threatened with extinction in the wild. Among the animals living here are the yellow-footed rock wallaby, the sand cat, the bongo, and the European pond turtle.
