About the Park
Located 65 kilometers north of Bordeaux as the crow flies, directly on the Atlantic coast and overlooking the Bay of Biscay, the Zoo de la Palmyre sits on the outskirts of Les Mathes. Opened in 1966, the zoo spans 18 hectares between two forests. According to the zoo, it is home to over 1,500 animals representing more than 110 species. In addition to enclosures for polar bears and great apes, the zoo features carnivores such as cheetahs, Sri Lankan leopards, and lions. Aquatic animals are represented by otters and sea lions.
The park will celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2026.
