Vulcania

In France's Volcans d'Auvergne nature park in the Chaîne des Puys volcanic chain in the French Massif Central, you will find the European park for volcanism, the Vulcania adventure park, in the town of Saint-Ours since 20 February 2002. The two geoscientists Katia and Maurice Kraff, who visited 300 volcanoes worldwide and experienced 175 eruptions, had been working on the idea of an adventure park on the theme of volcanism since 1988. The realisation, however, did not take place until several years after their death and under the leadership of former President Valéry Giscard d'Estaing. In addition to the major theme of volcanism, Vulcania also deals with natural phenomena and the solar system. There are all kinds of knowledge stations and multimedia presentations. All this takes place in the museum designed by the Austrian Hans Hollein, which is located on various levels below ground. With the family-friendly roller coaster Namazu from Intamin, which opens in 2021, roller coaster fans will also get their money's worth in Vulcania. Other spectacular underground attractions include the various 3D cinemas and 180° cinemas, where you can immerse yourself in the park's three main themes. Since its opening, more than six million visitors have already visited the park.
