About the Park
The Fête Foraine de Limoges, often referred to as the city's winter fair, is an integral part of regional identity and transforms the heart of the former capital of Limousin into a vibrant sea of lights every year. On the historic Champ de Juillet, a spacious park directly in the shadow of the magnificent Gare des Bénédictins railway station, a temporary world of entertainment is created that dispels the winter fog of the region with pure energy. This fair is considered one of the most important events of its kind in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region and offers a perfect symbiosis of nostalgic fairground flair and state-of-the-art entertainment technology.
The atmosphere at the fairground is unique, mainly due to the architectural backdrop. When the rides switch on their colourful illuminations, the light is reflected in the glass facades of the adjacent railway station, which is considered one of the most beautiful in Europe. The contrast between the stately tranquillity of the park and the hustle and bustle of the fair creates an almost magical atmosphere. Everywhere, the cries of the showmen mingle with the music of the carousels and the distant whistling of the trains to create a soundscape that is inextricably linked to wintertime for the inhabitants of Limoges.
The range of attractions is designed to cover the entire spectrum of entertainment. From dizzying high-speed rides that catapult adrenaline junkies into the night sky to classic bumper cars and ghost trains, everything is represented. The thrill rides in particular attract the younger crowd, while the youngest visitors enjoy gentler children's carousels, duck fishing or trampolines. It is this diversity that makes the Fête Foraine a real meeting place for all generations, where carefree cheerfulness takes centre stage.
Culinary-wise, the fair remains true to its roots and offers everything a sweet tooth could desire. The smell of freshly fried churros, often served with hot chocolate in Limoges, wafts through the alleys between the stalls. Typical French beignets, shiny toffee apples and candyfloss are also part of the regular repertoire. For savoury cravings, there are numerous stalls offering sandwiches, chips and local sausage specialities. The sweet treats are particularly popular and are often taken away in large paper bags, becoming a trademark of the fairground tour.
