About the Park
The Foire aux Manèges de Printemps in Arras is an integral part of the northern French festival calendar and transforms the historic city in the Pas-de-Calais department into a vibrant centre of entertainment culture every spring. The festival takes place on the spacious Esplanade du Val de Scarpe, which, with its generous area of around 35,000 to 40,000 square metres, provides an impressive stage for the spectacle. With a total of around 80 to 90 attractions, the fair is one of the most important annual fairs in the region and regularly attracts tens of thousands of visitors who are looking for a mixture of modern entertainment and traditional fairground atmosphere.
The atmosphere at the fairground is characterised by a lively energy that is typical of the ‘Boul'ch'ti’ – the warm flair of northern France. There is a colourful and noisy hustle and bustle between the impressive rides, some of which reach heights of over 50 metres and offer passengers a panoramic view of Arras' architectural treasures such as the town hall and the belfry. The attractions range from fast-paced high-tech carousels for adrenaline junkies to lovingly designed nostalgic rides that are particularly popular with families and children. The dense arrangement of the stalls and the clever lighting make a walk around the fair an intense sensory experience.
An essential element of the Foire aux Manèges in Arras is its distinctive culinary tradition, which makes a visit a moment of pure enjoyment. The air is filled with the aroma of regional specialities such as the famous croustillons – small dough balls coated in icing sugar – as well as freshly prepared crêpes, gaufres (waffles) and the obligatory candied apples. In the evening hours, when the entire site is bathed in a sea of neon lights and the music from the various stands merges into a cheerful tapestry of sound, you can feel how deeply rooted this festival is in the social life of the city. The fair is not only a place of entertainment, but also an important intergenerational meeting place that celebrates the end of winter and the awakening of spring.
