About the Park
In the Hessian part of the Taunus, more precisely in the central Hessian town of Weilburg, lies the Weilburg Wildlife Park, which is maintained by the Hessen-Forst state forestry company. Covering an area of 93 hectares, it is home to 20 different animal species such as fallow deer, mouflon, roe deer, red deer, black deer, elk, Skudden, ibex, Heck cattle, lynx, brown bears, Przewalski's horses as well as wolves, otters, ducks and geese. The use of the land around Weilburg and the current location of the wildlife park has been documented since 1590, initially for hunting and later as a game park. In addition to the various animals, the wildlife park has a significant tree population, including the up to 400-year-old hut oaks. On the mushroom nature trail with its 200 mushroom species, you can learn about the importance of mushrooms for the forest ecosystem and enjoy the variety of mushrooms. Weilburg Wildlife Park is a great and worthwhile excursion destination for young and old in Central Hesse and can also be reached by car from Koblenz in Rhineland-Palatinate in around an hour.
