About the Park
The PPP City Festival in Wesel is an outstanding folk festival in the Lower Rhine region, which owes its name to the three ‘Ps’ – Pauken (timpani), Plunder (plunder) and Promenade (promenade). It is one of the largest and most traditional events in the region and attracts thousands of visitors every year.
What makes the PPP City Festival special
The festival grounds stretch along the picturesque Rhine promenade and into Wesel city centre, creating a unique atmosphere that combines city life and river landscape.
The three pillars of the festival:
+ Pauken (music & entertainment):
The PPP City Festival is known for its lively musical entertainment. From Friday to Sunday, there is live music and a lively party atmosphere on the Kornmarkt, with bands and DJs offering something for every taste. There are also smaller stages and musical performances at other locations in the city centre and on the promenade.
+ Plunder (funfair & market life):
A huge amusement park with a variety of rides and attractions is at the heart of the festival. From fast-paced attractions to classic rides and a Ferris wheel – there is something for everyone here. For families and the youngest visitors, there are numerous children's carousels, mini roller coasters and game booths such as duck fishing. The offer is complemented by a large flea market that invites visitors to browse and discover. Numerous food stalls provide refreshments with typical fairground specialities and international delicacies.
+ Promenade (beauty on the Rhine & community):
The Rhine promenade provides a beautiful backdrop for much of the festival. In addition to the funfair, other activities reflecting Wesel's community life also take place here. On Saturday, 2 August, a club festival is scheduled in the city centre, where local clubs and initiatives will present themselves and provide insights into their work.
Special highlights:
- Opening with barrel tapping: Traditionally, the festival begins on Friday at 6 p.m. with the ceremonial tapping of the keg by the mayor, accompanied by free beer for visitors.
- Schützenfest: Also on Friday evening, the traditional Schützenfest takes place with an impressive grand tattoo at the historic citadel, organised by the Bürgerschützenverein Wesel Vorm Brüner Tor 1922 e.V.
- Other attractions: There are often additional events such as the Aviation Day at the airfield with the opportunity to take sightseeing flights, or sporting competitions such as the city championship in stand-up paddling on the Rhine.
The PPP Wesel City Festival is more than just a fair; it is a festival for the whole family that celebrates the identity of the city of Wesel and offers a unique combination of tradition, entertainment and community on the banks of the Rhine.
