Wenden - Wendsche Kärmetze

Whenever the Ferris wheel turns and the chain carousel starts its rides to cries of joy, when the Wendsche Kärmetze is officially opened by the mayor of Wenden, representatives of the showmen, politicians and the brewery with the tapping of a keg of beer in front of these two wonderful rides, the ‘sixth season’ begins for the people of Wendschen.

The Wendsche Kärmetze is as old as it is renewed every year and delights young and old alike with its colourful, garish beauty. And it has still internalised its village charm and the community of all Wendschen and preserved it in all the alleyways and streets. An old model for the future with a local flavour and ever new aspects.

South Westphalia's largest folk festival attracts several hundred thousand funfair fans every year and puts the community in a cheerful state of emergency. Around 400 fairground and market traders with rides, stalls, drinks stands, food stalls and almond carts await guests from near and far. On Saturday, Mayor Bernd Clemens officially opens the event at around 3.00 pm, thereby giving the starting signal for three days of ‘Wendsche Feierlust’.

Saturday ends with a brilliant firework display after dark.
