Wallenhorst - Klib

The Wallenhorster Klib is the nationally renowned folk festival of the municipality of Wallenhorst, which is celebrated every year with great flair and warmth. Originating from the historic church fair, the fair was officially reintroduced at the end of the 1960s (1968) after a long hiatus. Since then, it has traditionally taken place on the second weekend in June – from Friday to Sunday. With around 65 showmen and local innkeepers, the Klib transforms the community centre into a colourful fairground that attracts visitors from far beyond the community boundaries.

The atmosphere of the Klib is characterised by a lively mixture of tradition and modern entertainment. A special trademark is its family-friendly character: To kick things off on Friday, the community invites all children under the age of twelve to open the fair with a special programme and a raffle. The name ‘Klib’ itself is unique – while a humorous interpretation is ‘Kirmes always attracts visitors’, it is believed that the term originally found its way north as a southern German term for church consecration. Today, it is an established term for socialising in Wallenhorst.

The fairground has something for everyone. From fast-paced rides for adrenaline junkies to nostalgic carousels for the little ones, there is something for everyone. Numerous game booths, raffles, bars and snack bars create a genuine, unmistakable fairground atmosphere. Another lovely tradition in the community is to give gingerbread hearts to the residents of local retirement homes, which underlines the strong sense of community in Klib. When the evenings are long in June and the lights of the fair shine brightly, Klib becomes the vibrant heart of Wallenhorst.
