About the Park

The Waldkraiburg Folk Festival is a time-honoured, eleven-day celebration and a key social highlight throughout the Inn-Salzach region. As a multifaceted event, it attracts numerous visitors from the town and the surrounding area every year. The atmosphere is characterised by a successful blend of authentic Bavarian customs, modern entertainment and an international flair. As Waldkraiburg is a town characterised by diversity, this character is also reflected at the fairground, which sees itself as an open meeting place for all generations, cultures and nations.

At the heart of the festivities is the Almrausch marquee, where the festival is traditionally and ceremoniously opened by the Mayor tapping the first keg of beer. Here, renowned live bands and brass bands set the mood every day, with the repertoire ranging from traditional brass music to modern party rock. Alongside the marquee, the wine arbour – or vineyard – offers a cosy alternative for those who prefer to enjoy wine or cocktails whilst partying to the sounds of a rotating line-up of DJs. For younger visitors and night owls, the Almrausch Stadl is also a popular spot for the later hours. At the fairground on Adlergebirgsstraße, a large amusement park with modern rides, classic carousels and various shooting galleries and prize stalls provides plenty of thrills and entertainment.

The folk festival programme is varied and offers something to suit every taste. Among the regular highlights is the festive parade on opening day, during which local clubs, traditional music bands and local politicians march together from the town hall to the fairground. Special theme days, such as Family and Children’s Day – with reduced prices on the rides – and Seniors’ Day, are specifically aimed at different age groups. Good Neighbourhood and Business Day is also an important meeting place for local businesses and the surrounding communities. Special events such as Schafkopf tournaments, the ceremonial selection of the Waldkraiburg folk festival couple, and social initiatives whose proceeds go to regional charities round off the festival and make it a vibrant hub of community life.
