Riesa Zoo – Animal adventure in a historic monastery

Riesa Zoo is a popular destination for families, animal lovers and nature enthusiasts. It is idyllically located at the foot of a former Benedictine monastery in the centre of Riesa in Saxony. The unique combination of zoo and historic monastery complex makes a visit here a special experience.

The park was founded in 1965 thanks to the commitment of Riesa's citizens. Today, it is home to around 400 animals from around 75 different species, including dwarf otters, alpacas, various bird species and an impressive aquarium and terrarium landscape with exotic fish and small animals. The touch pool, where children can experience selected fish up close, is particularly worth seeing.

A highlight for young visitors is the lovingly designed petting zoo with goats and chickens, as well as the play area with a tunnel slide, barefoot path, bird song station and interactive learning activities. In addition, the zoo offers regular feedings, for example of the dwarf otters, on weekends at around 2 p.m. – a real crowd-puller.

Riesa Zoo is open every day throughout the year, including public holidays. Opening hours vary depending on the season:

April to September: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

October and March: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

November to February: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Last admission is 30 minutes before closing time.
