Tierpark Recklinghausen

Recklinghausen Zoo is a real insider tip for anyone who loves nature and animals – and it's right in the middle of the city! The park is located in the green Stadtgarten and has been delighting young and old alike for decades. Best of all, admission is free, so you can drop in spontaneously at any time – perfect for a short trip or a whole afternoon with the family.

Instead of exotic large animals, the park deliberately focuses on native and domesticated species. Here you can see goats, sheep, ponies and donkeys, as well as rabbits, guinea pigs and chickens. The petting zoo is particularly popular, where children can get up close to the animals. There are also wild animals such as fallow deer, raccoons and various species of birds – and with a little luck, you may even spot the storks that regularly breed here.

The grounds are lovingly designed: spacious enclosures, small ponds, winding paths and plenty of seating invite you to linger. Those travelling with children will appreciate the playgrounds right next to the park. This is a wonderful way to combine an animal experience with play.

In addition to fun and relaxation, the zoo also offers knowledge to take home with you: information boards explain the animals' way of life and turn your visit into a little learning adventure.

Whether as a family outing, a meeting place with friends or a short walk in between – Recklinghausen Zoo is a green oasis in the Ruhr area that is free to visit and always worth a visit.
