Tierpark Mainz-Kastel

Mainz-Kastel Zoo is a popular destination for families, nature lovers and children in the Mainz-Kastel district of Wiesbaden. Nestled in the idyllic Petersberg biotope, the park offers a natural environment with a diverse range of animals, including goats, sheep, ponies, a cow, geese, ducks, chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, bees, turtles, cats and even a swan. Admission is free, but donations are welcome and help to maintain the grounds.

The animal park is run by volunteers and supported by a full-time animal keeper. Its origins date back to the 1960s; in 1968, a support association was founded, which is still committed to its preservation today. For children, there is a small playground with a trampoline, slides, swings, go-karts and a fire pit – ideal for a relaxing family outing. A small kiosk also offers snacks and drinks.

The grounds border the nature-protected Cyperus Park, where rare amphibians, insects and pond landscapes can be discovered. Together with other associations, this area is maintained by the Petersberg Biotope Working Group.

The zoo is open from Tuesday to Sunday (closed on Mondays). In the summer months (April–October), the park is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Sundays and public holidays from 11 a.m.), and in the winter months (November–March) it closes at 4 p.m. The zoo is easily accessible by bus lines 33 or 57 (Peter-Sander-Straße stop, approx. 10 minutes' walk).
