About the Park
In the Saxon town of Klingenthal in the Vogtland district, about 14 km from Schöneck and directly adjacent to the border between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Czech Republic, you will find the Klingenthal Zoo, which opened in 1963. On an area of 2.5 hectares, you can experience around 50 native and exotic animal species, some of them up close. You can see alpacas, monkeys, donkeys, meerkats, ponies, fallow deer, hedgehogs, Egyptian tortoises, pheasants, parakeets, owls, buzzards, eagle owls and pygmy goats in Klingenthal Zoo. For the little visitors, there is also a petting enclosure with guinea pigs and dwarf rabbits, as well as two playgrounds with climbing frames and shovel excavators, where they can play and romp around. Klingenthal Zoo was particularly proud of Taps, Germany's largest grizzly bear, with a standing height of 2.60 m, who unfortunately died in 2002 but can still be admired in the Chemnitz Natural History Museum. The zoo is a worthwhile destination for families and all animal lovers.
