About the Park
In Lehre-Essehof in Lower Saxony, about 12 km from Braunschweig, you will find the privately run Essehof Zoo, founded in 1968. Fifty different species of animals live here on an area of about 10 hectares. In addition to the native lynx, fallow deer and eagle owls, you will also find several domestic breeds such as cattle, Toggenburg goats, Zackel sheep, dwarf and Zamorano-Leones giant donkeys. Of course, there are also exotic animals, ranging from "A" for alpaca to "E" for meerkat, "M" for mantled baboon, "S" for porcupine and "Z" for zebra. Another highlight is the underwater station, where you can take a look three metres below the surface of the pond, and the water nature trail. Of course, the Wilhelm family has also thought of play opportunities for the little ones and has set up a huge play paradise with seesaws, slides, swings and a water play area, as well as a children's railway, various rides and even a roller coaster for the little ones in the park. All this promises a great day out at Essehof Zoo.
