About the Park
Friedrichskoog in the Dithmarschen district of Schleswig-Holstein has been home to the only approved seal breeding station on the Schleswig-Holstein North Sea coast, the Friedrichskoog Seal Station, since 1985. In addition to the harbor seals and grey seals that are reared here and then released back into the North Sea, a group of harbor seals and grey seals live permanently in a second pool. Here you can gain special impressions of the life of the native seals and observe seals and grey seals through large underwater windows. During the commented feedings, the animal keepers impart knowledge about the seals and answer your questions. The “Seals of the World” adventure exhibition invites you to playfully learn more about the biology, threats and conservation measures of the native marine mammals and their relatives. The free escape game “Mysterious find in the mudflats” is exciting: four chests are found during a mudflat hike. Can you solve the mystery of the chests? There are other seal stations in the north of Lower Saxony with the National Park House Seal Station and the Whale Museum.
