The largest event in the town of Schwelm on the 1st Sunday in September

The Schwelm Heimatfest with its colourful programme is a traditional event in the town of Schwelm with deep roots in local history.

Two events form the heart of the Heimatfest: the atmospheric town centre fair and the parade of the 13 Schwelm neighbourhoods.

The procession sets off from Ochsenkamp at around 1 p.m. on Sunday (http://www.schwelmer-nachbarschaften.de).

A fair was organised in the town for the first time just one year after the town charter was granted in 1496. It is organised as a traditional town centre fair and starts at 2 pm on all five days. It is officially opened on Friday at 5 p.m. with 13 gun salutes and the tapping of the barrel, which the mayor will perform in the vicinity of the Ferris wheel on Wilhelmplatz.

A total of around 160 fairground companies will be admitted. The event will conclude on Tuesday at around 22:30 with a fireworks display.

The public order office of the town of Schwelm is the organiser of the Heimatfestkirmes and ensures a successful mix of traditional and modern fairground rides every year. There are plenty of amusement and entertainment rides. There is also plenty of food and drink, so that every visitor will find what they personally associate with a funfair.

The Heimatfestkirmes is visited by up to 180,000 funfair fans over the five days and is also very popular in the surrounding area. Due to its great appeal, around 600 showmen apply for one of the attractive places every year.

Schwelm is the smallest town in North Rhine-Westphalia in terms of area. It is only a 5-minute walk to the funfair from Schwelm railway station. The ample parking facilities are quickly exhausted during peak times, so travelling by bus and train is always worthwhile.
