Rositzer Kirmes

The Rositz funfair has been celebrated annually on the third weekend in September since 1991. With several thousand visitors, it is one of the largest events in the Altenburger Land district and gives our community a positive image, both in the surrounding area and beyond its borders. Of course, the fair is a traditional folk festival, but a fair in Rositz also means preserving the customs and traditions of our ancestors and preserving a valuable part of our local history.

This includes the preservation of the Altenburg dialect, the Altenburg peasant costume, the harvest crown and the presentation of old crafts. This is the big difference to many other folk and local festivals.

Highlights include the large parade, the craftsmen's and farmers' market, the choir concert and constantly changing programme performances in the marquee. Not forgetting, of course, the brass bands, marching bands and fanfare bands, which contribute to the musical programme of the parade and the entire fair. Every year, the fair is opened by Rositz's symbolic figure, the ‘Fair Queen’, who traditionally presents the mayor with the fair bread.
