Every year, as the schools approach their summer holidays, the former imperial city of Ravensburg celebrates the Rutenfest. This festival, which is deeply rooted in the town's history, acts like a magnet for the population, especially for those who have moved to Ravensburg from abroad and prefer to visit their home town during the Rutenfest. Even those who have left Ravensburg still seem to be able to hear the crashing firecrackers from the Mehlsack and the drums in the distance ...
Every year, the Rutenfest unites the townspeople for a few days without distinction of rank or name, old and young, big and small, Ravensburg residents and new citizens. And every year, the joy of what has been achieved resonates strongly, the joy of preserving an endearing homeland.
The Rutenfest has long since become a celebration for the entire city. However, the pupils are still at the centre of the festival, and the leafy branch - the rod - in the pupils' hands has remained the festival symbol.
