Radevormwald - Schützen- und Heimatfest

The Radevormwald Shooting and Local Heritage Festival is the town’s largest and most traditional folk festival, attracting large numbers of visitors to the central market square and the adjacent fairground every year. Organised by the Radevormwald Shooting Club of 1708, the four-day event offers a delightful blend of fairground hustle and bustle, a party atmosphere and deeply rooted traditions.

The festivities traditionally kick off on Friday afternoon with the mayor tapping the first keg, officially opening the fairground. On the fairground, modern rides, bumper cars, prize stalls and classic fairground fare provide entertainment for young and old alike. On Friday evening, revellers are usually drawn to the large marquee, where live bands or DJs get the party started and kick off the festive weekend in style.

Saturday is all about sport and traditional marksmanship. In the afternoon, the marksmen determine their new royalty during the ceremonial ‘Königsschießen’ (King’s Shoot) at the shooting gallery. The evening culminates in a large marquee party or the traditional ‘Königsball’ (King’s Ball), where the outgoing royal couple are bid farewell and the new rulers are celebrated in style.

Sunday is a visual highlight of the entire festival. Following an ecumenical service and the subsequent musical morning pint in the marquee, the grand parade forms in the afternoon. Numerous friendly shooting clubs, marching bands and local associations parade through the streets of the city centre in festive attire, lined by crowds of spectators at the roadside.

Monday marks the family-friendly and traditional conclusion of the local festival. In addition to the popular morning get-together in the marquee, where representatives from politics, business and community life meet, the afternoon offers discounted prices on Family Day at the fairground. As soon as darkness falls, the four-day spectacle reaches its grand finale with a spectacular fireworks display over the city.
